Hassyan power plant is one of the largest power plants in GCC located in Dubai, UAE. The plant is designed to be “best in class” in terms of efficiency thus minimizing fuel consumption and fuel gas emissions and will adhere to the most stringent environmental regulations. Under this monitoring process the methane leakages reduction through the pipeline are monitored and then converted into CO2 emission reductions. Disclosure: This is a DEMO project.

MRV Description

This monitoring process measure the methane leakages reduction through the pipeline, making the difference between natural gas inflow and outflow, which is then compared with the baseline and converted into CO2 equivalent emission reductions.

It has not been identified publicly available UAE commitments regarding CH4 emissions reductions.

The UAE’s flagship renewables target aims to achieve an electricity generation mix composed of 44% renewables, 38% gas, 12% “clean” coal and 6% nuclear. No direct commitments regarding methane emissions have been identified so far.
