The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It has a planned production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030, with investments totalling AED 50 billion. The monitoring process of this assets relies on remote and periodic recording of its renewable energy generation, which is converted into CO2 reductions against the average grid emission factor. MRV Description

The monitoring process relies on a periodic and remote monitoring of the power generation meters. Then, the data is converted into CO2 reductions based on the grid emission factor. Disclosure: This is a DEMO calculation.

The UAE’s flagship renewables target aims to achieve an electricity generation mix composed of 44% renewables, 38% gas, 12% “clean” coal and 6% nuclear. The UAE’s federal structure affords each of the emirates considerable autonomy in implementing their own renewables targets, incentives and procurement schemes.

Dubai has had considerable success in running large-scale, competitive auctions to procure solar power, so this monitoring system helps to track its actual results against the NDC and other commitments.
